One of Those Days

Part 24

The Rest of the Story

The pit bull complied, immediately dropping to the ground, but he forgot to let go of Merai.  The additional pressure of his weight on top of her forced her quills the rest of the way through the wool coat.  Gron yipped and bounced off Merai as her sharp quills peppered his front.

“Get off me you jerk!”  Merai kicked Gron hard and low for good measure.

Gron decided that this was not indeed the happy feeling he had desired, as the heel of Merai's boot dug deeply into his more gelatinous areas.  The pit bull became a large ball fighting hard against nausea.

Trakkz fought to keep his balance, pistol waving wildly in the air.  He cursed mightily as the chihuahua attached to his leg bit deeply into his thigh.  “You stinkin' little south of the border, runt, son of a...”  The pistol came down to fire point blank into the boy.

A loud ka chack stopped Trakkz's tirade.  He turned to find himself snout to bayonet, staring down the business end of a 12 gauge shotgun.  A huge smile broke abross the wolf's face.  He dropped the gun and put his hands in the air.  “This ain't what it looks like, we was just jokin around when this crazy porcupine shows up and...”

“Buttstroke to the head... Move!”

“What?!”

The bear took one step closer to the wolf and clobbered him with the buttstock of the shotgun, dropping him like a sack of fleas.

Merai was already at Quinn, cradling his head in her lap.  “Quinn, oh Quinn, please wake up!” she stroked his head, tears starting to rain down her muzzle.

“Merai!”  Jason didn't give her time to think.  An olive drab satchel plopped on the ground next to her and the big bear knelt.  “I need you to go to my store, get on the phone behind the counter, and call 911 for an ambulance, then get back here!”

“But,”

“Move, or he'll die!”

The porcupine complied, sprinting to the shop.  Jason opened the worn satchel, snatching out the items he needed, several large gauze pads, he tore off strips of cloth from his own shirt to make wraps as he bound First Quinn's and then Jose's wounds.  How many times had he done this in the war?  He never thought these skills would come back into play once he had returned to the US.

Soon Merai returned to assist Jason.  Quickly the police arrived on the scene as well as an ambulance.  Controlled chaos ensued as the injured parties were delivered to the hospital.

Merai stroked the little chihuahua's head.  “Thank you for what you did.” she smiled gently at him.

“B-but I broke your tire, I'm a bad boy, I'm so sorry!”  tears began to fill Jose's eyes.

“It's all right, I forgive you, if you hadn't been there, they would have done something terrible anyways, you helped stop them.”

“You know what you did was wrong, son.” said Ramon  “And you are willing to admit that, you are on the road to manhood son!”

The little chihuahua began to cry tears of anguish and relief.

“There, there, my boy,!”  Maria comforted her son.

“Senora Merai, we owe you a debt of honor, please let us repay you!”

“But I don't need anything from you!”

“Please senore, there must be something we can do?”

“What did you say your job was again, before you got laid off?” asked Merai.
Now we know the rest of that dreadful night! =^^=

Hmmm, may have to revisit this chapter, though, not too happy about it...

Ok, quick edit, that's better! =^^=
