About an hour later, Merai and Quinn arrived at Verne's. The beaver greeted them at the front entrance. "Well, it's about time! We was about to send out a search party!"

"You know, Verne, it is really hard to use a hand pump once the air pressure gets over 20 PSI in a tire, Verne, especially when you're working with a gimp arm!"

Verne blinked, "I threw you the pump as a joke, I put an air compressor in Merai's trunk to do the job!"

"What!?!" replied Quinn and Merai in stereo.

"Open the trunk!" said Verne.

Merai complied. "I don't see an air compressor!"

Quinn stared at Merai for a minute. "But, ... how?"

Merai smiled impishly, "Well, Jose showed me, you just unscrew this little doohickey inside the valve stem and..."

Quinn boggled.

Merai laughed, it sounded like a musical instrument. "You should see the look on your face it is priceless!"

"But.... your job, Arizona..."

"Please, allow me to introduce myself" She straightened herself off Kadie's fender and took a step forward. "My name is Merai, and I'm the new secretary, technology consultant, dispatch officer, and parts retrieval specialist for Verne's Automotive repair and Body shop!"

Verne looked over at Quinn as he buckled himself in.

"Well, it's good to see you outta the hospital, boy, you take all the time you need to heal, yer job'll still be here when yer ready ta come back."

"Thanks Verne, I hope things haven't been too rough on you at the garage."

"Nah, we're doin' fine! I finally got off my tail and hired us some extra help. We got ourselves a couple new hands ta divide the work. The hospital released Quinn two days later. Verne picked him up to him back in his truck.

The nurse gave Quinn his final instructions as she wheeled him outside. "Remember to keep your arm moving, try to use as full a range as possible to keep your muscles from stiffening up. After about a week, you'll be able to perform more strenuous tasks. The same holds true for your leg. Use the crutch as long as you need it. But not for too long otherwise the muscles will atrophy. Your lung is healing nicely and you should be at 100% within 10 days. Remember to get a good eight hours of sleep every night, and

Verne had a hard time keeping up with the distraught porcupine. That last tune-up really gave the old car some new horsepower.

He kept up the pursuit. The young lady drove unusually fast and Verne feared first running afoul of the law, but more for the girl's safety. He knew she needed to think things over, but getting herself killed wouldn't help matters at all.

She pulled onto the turnpike and he followed her. As the miles ticked by he wondered just how long she would need to drive to get this out of her system.

"Afternoon, Mrs. Stuart." nodded Verne to the older porcupine entering the room.

"Mom! I, uh, oh, but, Merai, and...."

"Quinn," she began "Don't be hard on him, please, how long have you worked together? How long have you been friends?"

Quinn looked down. He couldn't look Verne or his mother in the eye.

"Don't be so depressed, son, there's someone else here to see you, and I don't think you want to disappoint her!"

Quinn looked up at the door framed, smiling stood Merai. His eyes grew as big as saucers. Then his face darkened. "Merai, what are you doing here?" he said flatly.

and gave it a little color. ilwi is the housecat girl from the movie trailer and this is her car! What can I say, I love the huge whitewall tires!

Well, as tbolt said, whitewalls about the tires. I confess I like how tbolt coloured this a lot... I just love seeing myself looking nicely.

Ah, whitewalls refer to the tires! =^^=

Back in the glorious era when cars were cars and fuel economy was irrelevant, most of your more luxurious vehicles sported tires that had beautiful white sidewalls. (As opposed to the black rubber bands stretched around today's rims) So I have to admit I have a thing for cars whose tires show some white between the rim and the ground!

Yes this is a unique design! You don't see too many cars like that anywhere! =^^=

(In some ways I kinda miss chrome on cars... But it is just so much cheaper to coat things in plastic...

)
